Car Wars, ACT, Summerfest all part of busy summer weekend

SCARBOROUGH — There will indeed be something for everybody this week at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.

Thursday Thunder is back on track this week, the Car Wars season kicks off on Friday, the American-Canadian Tour Late Models make their annual summer stop at Beech Ridge on Saturday, and the busy week concludes with the Maine Vintage Race Car Association’s Summerfest on Sunday. All in all, it’s a motorsports extravaganza sure to please race fans of every type.

Milton, Vermont, driver Scott Payea leads the ACT Late Model Tour into Saturday’s Beech Ridge 100 with wins in four of the first five races this season. He leads Connecticut’s Dillon Moltz and New Hampshire’s Rich Dubeau atop the standings. Qualifying for the Beech Ridge 100 begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and the program also includes the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Pro Series, Sport Series and Wildcat divisions.

On Friday night, from a galaxy far, far away, CAR WARS returns for another season of family-friendly motorsports action at 7 p.m. Bring the whole family every Friday in August for Car Wars, which includes everybody’s favorite superstar “Firefly.”

The weekend wraps up with a celebration of Maine’s rich motorsports history, as the MVRCA holds its annual Summerfest. A cookout, an exhibition race and acres and acres of race cars from several generations will be on the speedway grounds beginning at 10 a.m.
